The first elderly health database will be built in Zhangjiang
With the acceleration of an aging society, the elderly health care has increasingly been becoming a social hot spot. Nowadays, the first Chinese elderly health database is in preparation at the Zhangjiang stem cell base in Pudong for continuously tracking patients for decades so as to attain the goal of disease prevention and control by means of large data.
According to information, Zhangjiang stem cell base is established in Tongji University affiliated Shanghai East Hospital by the cooperation of Shanghai municipal government with social capital.
Wu Hong, the head of family physicians team of Gaohang community health service center, said that Gaohang has, after three years of screening, set up disease management covering one third of the inhabitants over 65 years old and established database, by which more than 800 people have been screened out to be high risk group of heart failure.
Fan Weimin, the director of heart failure department of Shanghai East Hospital, disclosed that the 800 patients have been continuously tracked by this project by means of relevant inspections such as regular ECG, echocardiography and glycated hemoglobin and etc; in addition, the specialist physicians of cardiovascular department of Shanghai East Hospital are guiding the general practitioners in community hospital to give targeted therapies to patients. Last year, this project was also added with index tracking for tumors.
Liu Zhongmin, the dean of Shanghai East Hospital, as well as the director of Zhangjiang stem cell base, said that the first Chinese elderly health database will be set up on the base. Except for heart failure, osteoarthritis, Parkinson, Alzheimer's disease, cancer and so on will be incorporated into the management.
As another major project of Zhangjiang stem cell base, in the treatment of osteoarthritis by means of stem cells, significant progress has been achieved. As said by Yin Feng, who is the director of bone-joint department, that degenerative osteoarthritis (commonly known as "bony spur") is a common disease in old people, with suffering proportion, for the women aged 65 years and older, as high as 80%. Zhangjiang stem cell base is recruiting 500 people as volunteers of knee pain, from 50 years old to 70 years old in Pudong Community, opening expert outpatient service in joint department on the 2nd floor of the headquarters of Shanghai East Hospital in every Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Expert outpatient service is opened in the 4th floor of courtyard south of Shanghai East Hospital in every Wednesday morning, that the inhabitants who intend to be volunteers can go and find Professor Yin Feng for accepting screening by free registration and free radiography. The patients conforming to the diagnostic of knee osteoarthritis can, agreed by the patients, be incorporated into clinical research for accepting stem cell therapy for free of charge.
